They are better suited to rougher terrain. Metal sticks can be adjusted to fit the person’s body height and weight, therefore lessening the stress on the legs and knees.
Another thing to consider is whether to bring one or two trekking poles. A single walking stick can get you through rocky terrains since it leaves your other hands free to grip rocks and boulders. A pair of walking and trekking sticks on the other provides equal balance to your left and right knees and arms. Choosing the right walking stick will depend on your personal choices.
