Survival and Emergency Gear

Having the right survival and emergency gear will ensure the success of any trip. Roughing it can take its toll on anyone, even on the most experienced. Unpredictable weather conditions, rough terrain, changing altitude and the lack of any convenient food and water source could spell trouble for anyone who is unprepared. Therefore, before heading out on any trip, make sure that you pack your survival and emergency kit.

1. Excellent quality camping gear: Survival begins with the camping gear you bring along. Bring a high quality tent and sleeping bag. Make sure that your gear can adequately provide shelter in any weather condition. Pack your things in a waterproof backpack.

2. Maps, compass and GPS. It is important to know exactly where you are and where you are heading. GPS can point you to precise directions, but electronic equipments are not 100% reliable. A map and compass would be able to provide more concrete information about the area, including water source, elevation and exits.

3. Food and water filtration. Food and water will provide all the energy you need during your trip. Bring along purifier tablets or water purifiers, so you don’t have to worry about clean water.

4. First aid kit. A survival and emergency gear should include a first aid kit. It should contain the essentials such as adhesive bandage, iodine solution, wound closure, pain killer, antibiotics and insect repellants. You may personalize your first aid kit to fit your needs.

5. Matches, kindling and flashlights. Fire can provide more than warmth and light. You can make smoke signals in case of emergency. Fire can also frighten wild animals on a prowl.
