Flashlights
Whether you need to get up in the middle of the night, or find your way home in the dark, a flashlight is indispensable. Every camper should have at least one, preferably more. There are a variety of lights to choose from, based on brightness, purpose and weight. When camping, a weatherproof flashlight is a good investment, you never know when it will rain or you might accidentally drop it. I remember losing a flashlight over the side of the dock I was fishing off of one evening many years ago. Fortunately for me the water was only a couple of feet deep and I easily retrieved it- had it not been waterproof I would have had a hard time getting back to camp, and the fishing would have been over- it's hard to bait a hook in the dark!
Flashlights also come in handy when you need to get a fire started- a roaring campfire is great once it's going, but until then that little Mag flashlight is invaluable in finding things like- say the lighter fluid in the back of the truck. Camping flashlights can also do double duty in an emergency situations back at home as well. Try to keep them on top of your camping gear and easily accessible at home, that way if you lose power that portable light source is right at hand.
